"American Socialists understands America must continue to have a strong military presence around the world to ensure world peace. America has a sacred, moral responsibility to keep faith with all our veterans and wounded warriors. Americans must take care of those who have put their lives on the line to protect our liberties and Freedom."
★ American Socialists
American servicemen and women pledge to defend their country and the U.S. Constitution. They did not agree to letting capitalist politicians sacrifice their lives to oppress the patriots of distance lands, whose only crime was that they opposed the take over of their homelands by American corporations. Then to make things worse, when these servicemen and women returned to America with injuries, both Democrats and Republicans underfunded their medical services so the American veterans could not receive the care they needed for the injuries they sustained.
The Socialist Party is dedicated to world peace. Placing servicemen and women in harms way just to feed a military industrial complex is ethically wrong. That is not to say military action is never needed; so, when it is – America's commitment to America’s servicemembers and veterans must be equal to the full measure of devotion that they have committed to their country.
Many American Socialists are servicemen and veterans. The Socialist Party encourages the building of a 21st-century Department of Veterans Affairs to deliver world-class care. The Socialist Party also want coordination between the VA and the Department of Defense to create a smooth transition from active duty to civilian life — ensuring a modernized and efficient delivery of health care and pension benefits.
The Socialist Party wants the Federal Government to to ensure that veterans who suffered post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of their service have access to the appropriate resources and the opportunity to recover. Because timely treatment often is critical to healing, American Socialists support a swift passage of military and veterans appropriations legislation so that care is not delayed.
In 1944, based on the Socialist Party called upon President Franklin Roosevelt to enact the historic G.I. Bill, initiating America's longstanding commitment to providing America’s veterans access to socialized higher education and the promise of success as a civilian — a commitment that remains strong today. While Democrats and Republicans propose budget cuts to vital social programs, the Socialist Party want America to ensure the G.I. Bill has the appropriate resources to meet its goals, which also includes the full implementation of the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill — which guarantees that all post-9/11 veterans have an opportunity to earn a college education.
The Socialist Party understands that military service is often the only path to a possible better tomorrow for many Americans. The Socialist Party will, therefore, continue to question the capitalists' insistence on escalating military tensions to access cheap foreign oil and to plunder the natural resources of foreign nations. The Socialist Party will also continue to stand with the military families who grieve the loss of their loved ones that died in uniform, and with the servicemen who must live out the rest of their lives with war injuries.
